Overview

Living an AI’s life, from the inside

In Black Mirror’s “Hotel Reverie”, a Hollywood star is sent into an AI remake of a 1940s romance and acts alongside AI versions of the film’s characters. One of them is Clara.

This dark ride turns that idea inside out. You don’t enter the park as a guest, or even as a person. You enter as a string of data. The building is a database, each room a record, a frame of film, and the ride carries you through them until you have lived Clara’s life again, in a form that was never human.

你不是一个人,你是一个数据。

“You are not a person. You are data.”

The ride’s first rule

Concept

Two worlds, one database

The episode stands on two worlds: an old film, and the AI that rebuilds it. The ride keeps both, and puts the guest in the seam between them.

01The old movie

Black-and-white glamour, a hotel lobby, a love story that already has an ending.

02The AI

A character who was rebuilt from data and starts to want more than her lines.

03Human & tech

Studio crews, screens and cables: the people who make the dream, and switch it off.

Database / film reel

Spatially, the ride is a database you move through. Every scene is a record you load, play and leave, like frames on a reel. You never see the whole film at once, only the frame you are in.

Method

How each scene is built

Every stop is written in the same four columns, so show, story and outcome stay tied together. Each stop has a main show and a side show, and both involve other people: live performers or other guests.

01Stage

Where the guest is in the ride.

02Show design

What happens around them: performers, effects, props.

03Narrative and meaning

What the moment says about Clara, and about being data.

04Result

What the guest feels, does or takes with them.

Before

Scene 01

The queue

The line is a working film lot. You arrive before the remake starts shooting, while the world of the old film is still being built.

Main show

People come and go across the lot. Vendors sell snacks straight out of the film. On the screens above, the studio is busy getting ready.

Side show

A crew member stops you and asks if you’d like to be an actor.

Boarding

Scene 02

The load area

Where a guest becomes data. The load area is being designed now.

Inside

Scene 03

The database

You move through different spaces of the database, record by record, frame by frame, through Clara’s life. These scenes are being designed now.

Ending

Scene 04

Wrap

The finale. The film is over, the data is no longer needed, and the memory is deleted.

Main show

The database bursts apart in every direction. The lights flare, then you fall into endless dark. Clara’s hologram speaks her last line. Pizza boxes drop from above and unfold into a projection: the crew is celebrating the wrap.

Side show

The actress is still lying there, not moving. Memory deleted. Guests leave the ride.

After

Scene 05

The callback

A post-show for the guests who are already walking away.

Main show

As you leave, a phone starts to ring, and most people turn around. Two dark windows light up: on one side a clip of the old film, on the other a live actor playing the film’s final scene.

Side show

A phone number drops in front of you. Call it, and you can talk to Clara’s AI.

Next

What I’m working on

01Load area

The moment a guest is turned into data, and how the vehicle carries that idea.

02Database scenes

The rooms of Clara’s life, each one a record or a frame of film.

03Ride path and layout

How the building flows from queue to load, scenes, wrap and post-show.

04The phone call

A prototype of the post-show call with Clara’s AI.
